At first, open you my computer and locate the drive and right-click on it.


Now from there, click format option. Choose 'Restore device defaults' and click 'Start'.

Now check your drive if it is working properly.

In case of not fixed, try method 2:

Format Protected USB Using CMD

Command prompt it is very reliable and the last option to format or erase write-protected USB drive.

Follow the procedure which is given below--


At first, connect your USB drive or SD card, and then click on start button and search CMD.


After that, you will find CMD in the search box. Then right-click on it and click on 'Run as Administrator'.


Then here will come DOS window. Now type “disk part” and then press enter to see into the disks.


After that type “list disk” and press enter to know all the disks which are available on your PC.

Note: After pressing Enter, you can see like Disk 0 and Disk 1. Disk 0 is the hard drive and Disk 1 is the removable drive. If you have a problem to find out which one is a hard drive or which one is removable drive then you can see their size, then you can easily recognise.


Then type “select disk 2”(when the drive is disk 2) and press enter to select my USB drive.

Note: Be careful whenever you select the disk name because one wrong input might delete all data from that selected drive.


Now type “attributes disk clear readonly” and press Enter to clean write protected.


Now type “exit” and press Enter to exit the process. Now close the CMD window.

After doing that your USB drive will be absolutely free from of write-protected and now you can easily copy or paste anything in your USB drive or SD card. So this is how you can format a write protected USB or SD card.
