Advantages and Types of Firewall: Main Advantage of a Firewall is that it is a barrier between the internal and external networks, thus helps us preventing unusual access. If an attack comes from the internet then the firewall acts as an obstruction and filter those attacks.
With a Firewall, you can also control internet speed. The firewall prevention system depends on many criteria such as the sites are used malicious or not and the host of the server is trusted or not etc.
The word ‘fire‘ here used as the unauthorised access to the devices, which is prevented by a wall is called Firewall. A firewall can be used as a software and a hardware or even both of them at once.
The software firewall prevents the harmful software from accessing the computers where the hardware firewalls filter the users from accessing the internet using our network.
There are mainly four types of firewall--

Packet Filtering FirewallPacket Filtering Firewall is the first stage firewall protection which protects the internal network from the external threads.
The packet filtering system is present in most of the router but to make it work have to set up with some rules putting the values such as Source IP address, Destination IP Address, IP Protocol ID, TCP/UDP Port Number, IP Options settings, ICMP Message type, Fragmentation flags etc.
Packet Filtering Firewall is divided into two types:
Stateless Packet Filtering:This is not a fair Firewall. Because this kind of packet filtering cannot cache the passed packets and dangerous for UDP data packets.
Stateful Packet Filtering:Stateful Packet Filtering is a smart and Dynamic packet filtering firewall which cache the passed packets and receive the data with attached packet ID data, where router choose and identify then deny or allow them to fall into the receiver’s computer.
Circuit Level GatewayWhere the stateless packet filtering is dangerous for UDP connection the Circuit Level Gateway provides a standard UDP and TCP security connection. Circuit Level Gateway works between the internal user and proxy server.
Any request made by the internal client go to the proxy server via Circuit Level Gateway and the receiver of this request can see only the proxy server IP address and the real user information is hidden. Next, when the external server responds back and sends the packet it also passes through the Circuit Level Gateway and reaches to the clients.
Application Proxy FirewallApplication proxy firewall is a high level of firewall security and best type of firewalls. Proxy Firewall has it’s own IP address and that’s why it can prevent the direct contact to any other networks. Any packets sent from the computer goes through the proxy firewall and thus the internet is unable to track the in-house computer IP address. The proxy firewall has layer 7 protocols to manage the traffics come from the server. It does not depend only on MAC or Network address, the proxy firewall has advanced logging and inspection abilities.
NAT (Network Address Translation) FirewallNAT firewall is a security firewall which is used by routers to share the internet connection to multiple devices. NAT firewall, types of firewalls routers have set up of some rules to allow devices. The NAT firewall works between the clients and the external network. The devices connected to routers the ISP set an IP address for all devices which is seen by the external networks. But the external network cannot see the real IP address. When external attacks try to come into client computer the IP address given by the ISP don’t understand to which client to send to the request is rejected.
