Limit Hotspot Data Usage

Do you need to share your internet connection and limit the WiFi Hotspot usage? Limited data plan always a restriction which forces users to stop the data usage.

But, when you have nothing to act on this situation, you can control the data usage using settings on your device without any apps.

If you want to increase your hotspot connection speed limit while too many devices are connected to that network then read this guide till the end.

Data sharing through hotspot is now an opportunity for your friends who can use your internet data using WiFi on their android device.

This is easy.

Instead of limiting bandwidth for the devices, you can give your friend a particular set of data limit to use on his device using your WiFi hotspot.

The best thing is, you can do it anonymously without letting your friends know it.

This will create a metered network and will limit the data which is transferring to your WiFi Hotspot.

If the downloads take huge data and you have limited data plan then you can turn off the mobile data to suspend the speed of your hotspot.

But, this normally turns off your connection too. Another thing is, once you share the internet data, you have to keep a strong look upon the devices so that data limit does not exceed.

But, there is an easier solution to this.

You don't need to turn off your data to save your mobile data. Instead, you can set a data limit on your android device if you need to restrict the data usage on a particular stage from your data plan.

Beside throttling the hotspot speed, you also have some other stuff to do changing your settings to stop background data usage. If you stop the background data, this helps in reducing the data consumption for your device.

Do you know why does the Wi-Fi hotspot network use so much data?

Turning on your Hotspot and connecting to a device can take a large usage of your hotspot data.

The connected devices on your Wi-Fi network can use so much of data because of its ongoing downloading processes and other application updates that are pending.

Consuming of data from your Wi-Fi network always depends on a few factors like uploading speed and browser cache time.

To minimize the data usage you can sign in with only one account on your Android device.

If you use multiple Google accounts on your Gmail app and devices then those all will check for updates and will continue to consume your data from your Wi-Fi hotspot network consistently and this works on Android.

Can I set the limit of users to be connected to a Hotspot network?

The wireless Hotspot network has a range to connect up to 22 to 28 devices at a time.

Actually, the limit depends on what type of Hotspot you are using. In some mobile, you will see the limit is 8 to 12 devices at a time where some other mobiles allow to connect up to 25 devices at a time on the Wi-Fi hotspot.

Slow Down Hotspot Speed with a Data Plan

You should know that a smartphone has the settings to set a cap to limit mobile data usage. You can set a particular amount of data to be used from your device which includes your browsing data usage in that plan.

Now for a hotspot, it is same. As the hotspot uses data from the same device that is why you will have to set the data plan on that device which you will use to share the internet over the hotspot.

We have shown the procedure for Android 6.0 Marshmallow. You can do the same in any version of your android. The settings are available in all versions of Android. But, for prior versions, the system is slightly different.

Just follow the steps which are mentioned below:

Step 1
At first, go to 'settings' and click on 'Dual SIM & mobile networks'.

Step 2
Now click on 'Data management'.

Step 3
Now you have to click on the gear '⚙' icon to create a data usage plan for your Android device.

Step 4
Open the 'Data plan' option then click 'Monthly data plan'.

Step 5
Here, input the limit of data which you want your device to share.

Step 6
Now, turn on the data limit plan.

It will be activated and when the data consumption hit that particular limit internet connection would be stopped.

Note: If your friends are using your wifi hotspot connection and exceeded the data plan which was set by yourself then you also will not be able to browse the internet.

But, don't worry.

You can edit and increase the limit whenever you want to use the internet or you can turn off the plan from the settings to unlock the limit.

Step 1:
Just go to 'Data management' and click on 'Traffic rankings'.

Step 2:
Now there will be two tabs. One is apps used over 'Cellular' data, another is apps used over 'Wi-Fi'.
