1. Connect Contacts with Instagram App
Follow the steps:
Step 1: Go to Instagram > Profile
The first step you have to follow is to go to the Instagram app from your phone’s home screen; make sure you are logged in. You will be on the homepage of Instagram, where you can see the latest posts of the people and hashtags you follow.
At the bottom of the screen, there will be a menu bar with five different icons. You have to tap on the rightmost icon, the “Profile” icon. Under this section, you will be able to see your posts and account details as well as options to make changes.
Step 2: Go to the Three lines icon
Now that you are in the “Profile” section of Instagram, you will notice that there is an option at the top right corner of the screen with an icon that resembles three horizontal lines. This is the Three lines icon.
You have to tap on this icon for it to reveal a selection of options like “Archive”, “Insights”, etc., either to the right side of the screen or at the bottom of the screen, depending on the device and version of the app that you are using.
Step 3: Discover People
Once you see the list of options under the Three lines icon, you will find the option that says “Discover People”; this is the option you have to tap on. This action of tapping on it will lead you to the tab “Find People”.
Here you will see options to connect your Instagram account to Facebook and contacts so you can view the profiles of friends you have added on Facebook and your contacts. Besides these options will be a button that you can tap to “Connect”.
Step 4: Provide permission to Access your contacts
As soon as you are in the “Find People” section, you will see a notification on your screen asking you to provide permission to Instagram to access your phone’s contact list. You can choose to allow or deny access, but only allowing Instagram access will allow you to view the list of people you know from your contacts who also use Instagram.
Note: If some of your more important contacts don’t appear here with a username, they are not using Instagram, or even if they use it, they have connected a different phone number to their account.
2. Follow Contacts on Instagram
Follow the steps below:
Step 1: Instagram > Profile
The first step that you have to follow in order to reach the “Follow Contacts” option is to open the Instagram app on your device of choice, you will be in the home menu of Instagram, where you will be able to see posts and stories of people you follow on Instagram.
If you look to the bottom of the screen, you will notice a menu bar with five options on it. The one on the extreme right is the Profile icon. You have to tap on this. This action will lead you to the related tab, where you will be able to view all the photos and videos you have posted in the past.
Step 2: Go to the three lines icon > Settings
Now that you are in the Profile section, you must search for the Three lines icon. You will find it at the top right corner of the screen. You have to tap on it.
Tapping on it will lead you to a collection of options related to different aspects of your account like “Close Friends”, “Insights”, etc. Among these options, you have to look for the option that says “Settings”. You have to tap on it when you find it. This action will lead you to the “Settings” tab.
Note: The location of this option may vary from the top of the list to the bottom, depending on the version of the app you are using.
Step 3: Go to “Follow and invite Friends”
Under the “Settings” tab, you will notice many options related to changing the functioning of different minute aspects like “Notifications”, “Privacy”, “Security”, etc. The first option that you will find under “Settings” is “Follow and invite Friends”.
You have to tap on this option. This action of tapping on it will lead you to a new related tab where you will find exactly four methods that you can choose from, which you can follow and invite friends.
Note: Choosing one option does not mean you cannot choose other options.
Step 4: Go to “Follow Contacts” > Give permissions
Now that you are under the section “Follow and invite Friends”, you will notice that one of the four options says “Follow Contacts” You have to tap on it. In the next tab, you will be asked to allow Instagram permission to access your phone’s Contacts.
You will be given options to either allow or deny access. However, you have to allow access to be able to move forward. After doing so, you will be able to view a list of contacts who use Instagram. You can follow these people as well.
